Guga Handlooms

GUGA Handlooms is the ‘hand-woven’ side of Skye Batiks. They have been creating beautiful, hand-woven, cotton garments for over 35 years and are proud of the collection we offer today.

The extraordinary fabrics they use come from the looms of the iconic Sri Lankan designer, Barbara Sansoni. It was her vision of colour that initially inspired them and gave them the palate to create the Guga range.

All their jackets and smocks are sewn on the Isle of Skye, by a small team of dedicated seamstresses led by the Skye designer Jenny Alldridge, or recently, to keep up with demand, by Therssy in our Sri Lankan workshop.

Happily, many of the smocks we made in the 1980s are still being worn today by people who gleefully tell us that they should come with a warning, ‘Caution – Guga smocks are highly addictive’.

These versatile and good-looking garments quickly become a way of life and are so distinctive that they will be recognised, by other Guga aficionados, wherever you go.

They are a small, family run, business who strive above all else to ensure that your shopping experience is second to none.
