Sutton Park was built in the 18th century by Thomas Atkinson for Philip Harland and is now the family home of Sir Reginald, the 8th Baronet Sheffield and his wife, Lady Sheffield. Steeped in history, the estate's logo is derived from an 18th century tapestry of the Sheffield family crest, which can be found in the house.
When the Sheffields bought the house in 1963, they brought with them much of their art collection from Normanby Park in Lincolnshire. Large parts of this collection were originally from Buckingham House, now known world-wide as the Queen’s official residence – Buckingham Palace.
The Grade I listed building is a fine example of early Georgian architecture, with magnificent Rococo plasterwork by Cortese. It houses an important collection of porcelain as well as many other treasures, all put together with great style. The Gardens at Sutton Park were awarded Gold in the 2019 Yorkshire in Bloom awards.
